About us
The Lifelong Learning Centre opened in September 2006. It is part of Gartholwg Community Campus, a multi-million pound development at Church Village, that also includes:
- Ysgol Gyfun Gartholwg (replacement school for Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen)
- Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Garth Olwg
- Garth Olwg Nursery
- Church Village Community Library
- Gartholwg Youth Centre
The Campus has been developed under a private finance initiative. The
buildings are owned by 2003 Schools Services Limited and are leased back
to the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council for an agreed price (the unitary charge) over a period of
25 years. Jarvis Accommodation Services (JAS) are responsible for the building maintenance work over the next 25
years, as well as care-taking, security, cleaning, ICT maintenance, reprographic
services and on-site catering provision. This latter service has been
sub-contracted to Catering Direct.
The legal contract has clearly identified the hours that the partners have
access to the buildings and at all other times the buildings revert to JAS so
that they can hire the premises out to third parties. In addition, all bookings
for use of the sports facilities have to be made through JAS.
The LLC is designed to provide a wide variety of lifelong learning and leisure
opportunities and is a multi-functional facility. The Manager of the LLC is
accountable to the Headmaster and Board of Governors of Ysgol Gyfun Gartholwg
and is a member of the School’s Senior Management Team.
In addition, the LLC has a Stakeholder Committee which includes representatives
of the local community, and a wide variety of training providers and advice
providers who deliver services at the Centre. This Committee is consulted on a
variety of issues that affect the Centre, its activities and plans for the
future.
